Step 1

Which occupation code do you want to look at?

Type a job title or a 4-digit code. This tool does not tell you which code is right for a job: the code is the one on the Certificate of Sponsorship. GOV.UK points to the CASCOT coding tool for finding codes.

Codes and going rates from GOV.UK: going rates for eligible occupation codes.

Published figures

The published figures will appear here.

Choose an occupation code in step 1, pick the version of the rule in step 2, then read and tick the confirmation in step 3.

How the figures are worked out

Every number on this page comes from GOV.UK, with the source shown next to each rule.

  • Two published figures

GOV.UK says pay for Skilled Worker settlement must usually be the higher of a general yearly figure and the going rate for the occupation code. The calculator shows both and which one is higher.

Source: Skilled Worker ILR: salary requirements

  • Weekly hours

Going rates are written for a 37.5-hour week. The rules adjust the going rate in proportion to the hours on the certificate of sponsorship. The general yearly figure is not reduced for part-time hours.

Source: Appendix Skilled Worker, SW 14.3 and SW 14.4

  • The rule on the day of applying

An application is decided under the rules in force when it is made. If the rules or going rates change before then, a figure from this calculator can stop being right. The calculator stops showing figures 30 days after they were last checked.

Source: Immigration Rules: statements of changes

Note: GOV.UK counts guaranteed basic gross pay only. Overtime, bonuses, most allowances and benefits do not count. Sportspeople and ministers of religion have different rules, which this calculator does not cover. Tier 2 (General) workers have some extra rules on allowances and older going rates, which the calculator shows where they apply. See GOV.UK: salary requirements and Appendix Skilled Worker, SW 14.

Settlement rules are expected to change

The government consulted on “earned settlement”, which proposes a standard 10-year wait for settlement in place of 5 years, with time added or taken off for different people. The consultation closed on 12 February 2026 and the government says it is analysing the feedback. It is not yet part of the Immigration Rules. GOV.UK: Earned settlement consultation

The consultation paper proposes applying the changes to everyone in the UK who does not already have ILR. Salary figures and going rates can also change through a statement of changes to the Immigration Rules. GOV.UK: A Fairer Pathway to Settlement

What this means for any figure on this page: the rule that counts is the one in force on the day an application is made. Check GOV.UK statements of changes before relying on any figure.

Frequently asked questions

Is this calculator immigration advice?

No. It looks up the salary figures published on GOV.UK for the occupation code and version of the rule you choose. It does not look at anyone's individual case. MadyHR.ai is not registered with the Immigration Advice Authority. For advice on your own situation, speak to a regulated adviser or a qualified solicitor.

Where can I get advice on my own case?

GOV.UK says immigration advisers must be registered with the Immigration Advice Authority (IAA) or belong to an approved professional body, such as solicitors. You can search the IAA register with its Adviser Finder. Advisers can help with forms and represent you, but they do not make immigration decisions.

Sources: Find an immigration adviser, IAA Adviser Finder, Information for advice seekers

Does it check whether someone is eligible for ILR?

No. It does not check anyone's pay, the occupation code, time in the UK, absences, English, the Life in the UK Test or immigration history. It shows the salary figures and lists the other requirements as GOV.UK sets them out, with a link to each. Only the Home Office decides whether someone qualifies.

Why are there two figures?

GOV.UK says pay must usually be the higher of a general yearly figure and the going rate for the occupation code. The calculator shows both so you can see which is higher for the version of the rule you picked.

Source: Skilled Worker ILR: salary requirements

Which occupation code applies?

The code is the one on the certificate of sponsorship. This calculator does not decide which code fits a job. GOV.UK points to the CASCOT tool for looking up codes, and the Home Office can decide a different code applies.

Source: Going rates for eligible occupation codes

What counts as salary?

Guaranteed basic gross pay. GOV.UK and the Immigration Rules say overtime, bonuses, most allowances and benefits in kind do not count, and only pay for up to 48 hours a week counts towards the general figure.

Sources: Salary requirements, Appendix Skilled Worker, SW 14

Where can I see the 5-year date?

Use our free ILR and Citizenship Timeline Calculator. It applies the published GOV.UK time rules to a date you enter. It does not check eligibility either.

Source: ILR and Citizenship Timeline Calculator

What happens if the rules change?

An application is decided under the rules in force when it is made. Salary figures and going rates can change through a statement of changes, and the government has consulted on a 10-year standard wait for settlement. This calculator stops showing figures when its figures are out of date.

Sources: Statements of changes, Earned settlement consultation

What happens to what I enter?

Nothing leaves your device. The calculator runs in your browser and does not save or send what you type.

Is this calculator official?

No. It is a free, independent MadyHR.ai tool. It is not a Home Office, UKVI or GOV.UK service. If GOV.UK differs from this page, GOV.UK is correct.

Important: please read

This calculator gives general information only. It looks up the salary figures published on GOV.UK and in the Immigration Rules for the occupation code and version of the rule you choose. It does not look at anyone’s individual case, does not say whether anyone is eligible, which code or rule applies, what anyone should be paid or what to do, and a figure shown here is not a decision. It is not legal or immigration advice.

MadyHR.ai is HR software. It is not a law firm and is not registered with the Immigration Advice Authority to give immigration advice or services. Immigration rules, salary figures and going rates change, sometimes at short notice and sometimes for people already in the UK. Before applying, paying any fee or agreeing pay, check the latest guidance on GOV.UK, or get advice on your own case from an adviser registered with the Immigration Advice Authority (IAA) (search the IAA Adviser Finder) or a qualified solicitor.
